Oct 23rd, Starring Amanda Wyss, is a must watch — Ten Minutes of Brilliantly Executed Tension and Terror
Based on the always creepy true story, Oct 23rd is a highly effective exploration into supernatural tension building. The film, written and directed by Paul Santana, plays like a scene from a major motion picture with superb production values. It feels like a part of a much bigger story, yet it is entirely successful as the short film it is.
The ominous music seems to breathe in the background with a dread-infused constraint, letting the viewer know that some thing is there with the characters. At the same time, the rain and thunder tellingly parallel the gathering pernicious presence that now haunts these unfortunate souls.
Amanda Wyss (A Nightmare on Elm Street) embodies the tone of the film beautifully with her performance as a women who increasingly struggles to explain the darkness gathering around her.
