The Annual Women In Horror Month Massive Blood Drive is back, with 30 killer filmmaking teams who have come together to bring awareness to blood donation.

Today is January 31st and it marks the start of this year’s Women In Horror Month Massive Blood Drive onslaught! This year we have a killer 30 filmmaking teams who have come together to bring awareness to blood donation.

It’s that time of year again Horror Hounds! The time of year where we love to have the opportunity to celebrate those ladies who have made an impact, and those that will most certainly do so in the future. It’s February and it marks the 9th anniversary of Women in Horror Month (WiHM).

Each year in conjunction with WiHM, the Twisted Twins (Jen and Sylvia Soska) partake in a worldwide search for original Public Service Announcements regarding the need to donate blood and help Red Cross services.

“As we all know women are quite capable and we’re not asking for a hand out. Just some support. We’ve even taken it upon ourselves to be the ones giving back. You can’t think horror without thinking blood, and we’ve long wondered why the horror genre hasn’t already thrown its weight behind the blood donation cause. So we did it.”

This yearly tradition has proven fun and successful in the past, giving a chance for fans and fledgling filmmakers to create a worthwhile PSA. This year apparently is the biggest yet, with an epic number of boys and girls submitting — and a brand spanking new approach on sharing everyone’s creations.

In the past, an anthology was the way to go. But in 2018, we will be treated to a daily dose of PSAs catering to the needs of donating blood, made available on the Twisted Twins YouTube Channel.

The list of contributors for this year’s WiHM Massive Blood Drive is stacked. The theme is ‘Be A Hero’, which should prove to be entertaining…and hopefully hugely successful. So be sure to help support the efforts of the Red Cross, WiHM, founder Hannah Neurotica, the Soska Sisters, and all the amazing talent contributing to these amazing PSAs — and bleeding for a good cause and the love of horror.

DAY ONE: “B(E) POSITIVE” (JOE MAGNA)

First up is a feisty little submission entitled “B(e) Positive” from Writer/Director/Editor Joe Magna, with Music and Cinematography by Richard Trejo. Harvey Winesnob (Noel Jason Scott) isn’t as decadent as he thinks when three vixens (Jill Evyn, Stephanie Gail Westbrook, Christina Westbrook) find a worthy place for his contribution.

I definitely dig the style of this PSA. Joe Magna also had a lovely statement about his contribution to the campaign:

“I celebrate Women in Horror Month every month. Without the wonderful women of the horror genre, we would have no Frankenstein (thank you Mary Shelley). We would have no Creature from the Black Lagoon (thank you Millicent Patrick). And we would cease to exist. I think these days more than ever, we need to remind ourselves that each of us emerged bloody and crying from the womb of a brave and strong woman. It is my pleasure to be a part of this collection of short films that celebrates the wonderful Women of Horror.”

He goes on to add, “Donating blood means donating life. Now more than ever, we need to band together to help our brothers and sisters in need.”

Be like Joe. Be cool. Donate, respect and create.
