Dreams for Dead Cats Productions has finally released its spellbinding new horror short, “The Return of the Nacken,” and it’s everything.

Do not question, overanalyze, or doubt the hyper-unrealism of Dreams for Dead Cats’ new dark fantasy horror short, The Return of the Nacken. Trust it, and listen to it speak through its burning cellophane colors of lonely hearts and desire.
Every detail is filled with love and respect for the craft.
As with their previous film, Elliot, DDCP designed and constructed their artificial world with their bare hands. Blood, sweat, and tears are on every set and costume, and their ravenous creativity and ingenuity are palpably astonishing.
Elegantly, whimsically, heartbreakingly written and directed by Cassandra Sechler, with cinematography, editing, sound, and music by her partner in slime, Craig Jacobson, The Return of the Nacken tells the story of the night the immortal Nacken sea siren stalks the shadowy shores and caves of the small sea town of Del Meadows in search of doomed souls resigned to suicide.
The Return of the Nacken details how our titular being rises, casts her dark spells, and hunts for her prey.

She tears their life forces from their bodies and leaves them to roam lost in her lair forever. They become her Yokai-esque servants, beckoning new victims closer to their doom with disarming yet appealing whispers. Like a pure and hungry beast whose wrath is born from isolation, the Nacken makes violent love to her newly deceased and devoured victim.
As the Nacken in both her feral and Goddess forms, Emilie Struthers holds us willingly hostage as we watch her every chilling move.
This is the kind of art that can save us.
Dreams for Dead Cats Productions is currently touring its new mini-masterpiece through festivals. Upcoming screening information can be found on its website. And keep your eyes peeled for a 2025 Blu-ray.
