As we continue to celebrate the best horror of 2024, we welcome a new year of fear with a month dedicated to ooey, gooey, gory goodness.
2025 may already be a real-life horror show, but that’s all the more reason to escape the waking nightmare with some truly exceptional onscreen horror that reminds us it can always get much, much worse! Donna Tha Dead is kicking off the new year with a bang, featuring a month-long tribute to some ultra-gory, gonzo genre gems with plenty of substance buried beneath the splatter.
GRAFTED (2024)

Sasha Rainbow’s directorial debut has a teenage outcast using some gory medical techniques to be popular and beautiful with a little help from her friends. Gotta love femme-body horror films. Spoiler-free and gore-filled. The artist on my podcast playlist is Neneh Cherry.
SOCIETY (1989)

We’re getting weird and wild with Brian Yuzna’s directorial debut, Society (1989). A wealthy teen who is filled with anxiety and paranoia is given a glimpse at the dark side of his elite society. This film has lots of black humor and loads of gore and is cited as being hugely influential in the body horror subgenre. Plus, you get to hear all about my love for special effects legend Screaming Mad George. Spoiler(ish) free, and we may even get to shunt afterward. The artist on my podcast playlist is Nine Inch Nails.
THE SUBSTANCE (2024)

So much has been said about Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance (2024), but it’s not even remotely enough. There is so much to say! This sci-fi body horror delivers a powerful commentary about fame, aging, self-hatred, and society itself placing a woman’s value on her physical appearance. Spoiler-free and full of stabilizer. The artist on my podcast playlist is Bjork.
TOP TEN HORROR OF 2024

On this first episode of 2025, my friend Robert, who is the host of the awesome Creepy and Geeky podcast, graciously let me put our discussion of the Top Ten Horror Films of 2024 episode from his show on my show. So don’t be alarmed that you hear two show intros, all is right with the world. After listening, make sure you check out his amazing podcast with all his wonderful guests. This was so much fun to record that I had to share here with you horror lovers. The artist on my podcast playlist is The Beatles.
