Come listen to us fight about the sexiness and sumptuousness (or lack thereof) of Guillermo’s polarizing gothic tale “Crimson Peak”.
Hello, and welcome to Guilty Pleasures, the show where we give into pleasure, going ass up to tear into a modern horror film and find out how guilty we need to feel about loving or hating it.
For Gothic Horror Month, we asked our adoring fans to choose between two star-studded but polarizing productions: 2012’s THE WOLFMAN, and 2015’s Guillermo del Toro helmed CRIMSON PEAK. In an online vote, CRIMSON PEAK won by a blood-soaked landslide.
So don your Victorian PJs and grab your candelabra as we explore these haunted halls to find out if CRIMSON PEAK seduces us with its gothic charms. Is it the peak of pleasure or the decaying stink of pure guilt?

THIS MONTH’S THEMED SPIRIT: CRIMSON COCKTAIL
Fill two large glasses with a few cranberries and a small piece of rosemary, and muddle slightly. Fill with ice. Add 2 ounces each of vodka and 1/8 cranberry juice. Add ¼ cup each sparkling apple juice. Fill the rest of the way with ginger beer, and stir slightly to combine. If you don’t like ginger beer, you can replace it with apple juice. Garnish with fresh cranberries and/or apples and rosemary if desired. You can sub gin or tequila for vodka or leave it out entirely for a fun mocktail.

Be sure to join us next month when we’ll be braving Wahlberg Horror. You decide, is it DEAD SILENCE (2007) with Donnie Wahlberg or THE HAPPENING (2008) with baby bro Mark Wahlberg?
ABOUT THE HOSTS:

KELLY MINTZER
Kelly loves all the cheese but not the ones you’d expect. A Cronenberg apologist until her dying breath, this Final Philly Girl likes her cats fat, her drinks blue, and would love it if you read her nonsense, both fictional and non.
JACK WELLS
Visionary. Award-Winner. Philanthropist. Social-Media Phenomenon. None of these terms pertain to Jack Wells, a burgeoning author located in northern Utah, and as a raging introvert with an abundance of shyness…he is totally ok with that! Refusing to stick with one genre, Jack writes whatever pops into his head, from historical thrillers to ethereal horror. Guilty Pleasures marks his first foray into podcast hosting. When not putting pen to paper or mouth to the microphone, Jack spends time with his sweet but quirky family, taking late-night road trips, enjoying a cigar, and sipping whiskey by his fire pit (because, as everyone knows, all work and no play…).
STEPHANIE MALONE
Morbidly Beautiful editor. Writer. Brooding Artist. Emo poet. A24 obsessed arthouse apologist. President of the Nic Cage Fan Club. Rotten-Tomatoes film critic. The better half of the Cheer and Loathing podcast. She’s passionate about movies, good grammar, graphic design, and cats. This fiery redhead hails from Texas, but don’t hold that against her. Professional hustler by day, Love Witch by night. A rabid fan of both five-dollar and four-letter words.
ABOUT THE SHOW:
Each month, your hosts, Kelly, Jack, and Stephanie, take a deep dive into a 21st Century “Guilty Pleasure” horror movie as chosen by you, the listener, in an online poll (based on a particular theme). Join us for thematic cocktails, laughter, and a shared love of deliciously cheesy horror served up hot and tasty.
In this holiday extravaganza episode of Guilty Pleasures, join hosts Stephanie, Kelly, and our newest addition, Jonathan (Jack was tied up in tinsel and couldn't join us), as they unwrap the bizarre and unhinged world of holiday cinema. They dive into the depths of Elves, a film that's as chaotic as it is entertaining. It's a sleigh full of questionable decisions, diabolical dialogue, absurd plot twists, wildly offensive antics, and unhinged holiday mischief.
And that's not all! In the second half of the podcast, join your festive cinephile friends for a look at four more ”nutty as a fruitcake” holiday treats: A New York Christmas Wedding, Elf Bowling, A Medea Christmas, and Jack Frost. Plus, we each offer a bonus Christmas flick guaranteed to make you say, ”Ho, Ho, HO-LY Hell!”
Expect laughter, disbelief, and a spirited debate about what truly makes a movie a guilty pleasure. Don't miss this festive journey through the weirdest corners of holiday films!
