As iconic as Dracula is, few blockbusters are centered around him. The most well-known ones enter the pop culture lexicon and have long lives. Except at the box office. The vampire movies that have sprung from Bram Stoker’s novel are a different story.
The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a take on a chapter from the original book.
But it is really a story of missed opportunities. We talk about all the strange plot holes and constant teases. This includes one of the worst attempts at social commentary ever seen and the misuse of several great actors.
We tried to judge the film on its own merits, but it’s hard not to compare it to the source material. As the trailers have shown, The Last Voyage of the Demeter leans into the monster aspect of Dracula. How well did it showcase its powers? And what did we think of its sequel-baiting ending?
For all the bad, we actually had some good things to say.
Not everyone may be a fan of one of the most debonair horror figures being turned into a mindless beast, but it looked pretty cool. Plus, there is some good gore and exploding bodies. But is it enough?

Episode 370: Mid year recap
Time moves more quickly now than it ever has. It was not that long ago that we were talking about a new show executive produced by the Duffer brothers. About a month later, it is one and done. As someone once reminded us, we are just two guys who watch movies. Production budgets and domestic grosses are only a passing interest to us. Still, there are some things that catch our attention. Were we right to say that Michael would get to $1 billion? And what does the future hold for Obsession?
There was a major change to our humble little podcast this year. We decided it would be in our best interests to be a little more focused. To that end, we went to just covering one movie each show. Despite this, we still managed to cover twenty-three movies over seventeen episodes. And twenty of them were released in 2026.
So, what do we have to talk about? And will we get as worked up as we did last week? The horrors of high school, zombies, musicals, buff nuns, and grindhouse adjacent fun. It may not all have been good, but everything left some sort of impression on us.
