We journey back when vampires had serious swagger and were deadly cool, discussing the 80’s classics “Fright Night” and “The Lost Boys”.
Beginning a short series on vampire movies, Donna Tha Dead returns to talk about two 80s classics, Fright Night and The Lost Boys!
…
Fright Night is a 1985 American supernatural horror film written and directed by Tom Holland (in his directorial debut). It stars Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale, Roddy McDowall, Amanda Bearse, Jonathan Stark, Dorothy Fielding, Stephen Geoffreys, and Art Evans. The film follows young Charley Brewster (Ragsdale), who discovers that his next-door neighbor, Jerry Dandrige (Sarandon), is a vampire. When no one believes him, Charley decides to get Peter Vincent (McDowall), a TV show host who acted in films as a vampire hunter, to stop Jerry’s killing spree.
Since its release, it has received positive reviews from critics and has become a cult classic.
The Lost Boys is a 1987 American supernatural comedy horror film directed by Joel Schumacher, with a screenplay written by Jeffrey Boam, Janice Fischer, and James Jeremias, from a story by Fischer and Jeremias. The film’s ensemble cast includes Corey Feldman, Jami Gertz, Corey Haim, Edward Herrmann, Barnard Hughes, Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, and Dianne Wiest.
The film follows two teenage brothers who move with their divorced mother to the fictional town of Santa Carla, California, only to discover that the town is a haven for vampires. The title is a reference to the Lost Boys in J. M. Barrie’s stories about Peter Pan and Neverland, who, like vampires, never grow up. Most of the film was shot in Santa Cruz, California.
It has been described as a cult classic. The success of the film has spawned a franchise with two sequels and two comic book series.
