The Lost Boys

Get lost with us as we celebrate 200 episodes and honor an essential 80s classic, “The Lost Boys” — because the Spookshow party never dies.

We celebrate our 200th episode of the All-American Spookshow Podcast with one of the best horror movies of the 1980s, “The Lost Boys” (1987)! Join the whole Spookshow gang together for the first time in awhile for this momentous occasion.

FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF:

The Lost Boys is a 1987 horror comedy film directed by Joel Schumacher (written by Jeffrey Boam, Janice Fisher, and James Jeremias) that is considered influential for many reasons, including the way it helped change the way vampires are portrayed in popular culture. The film’s approach to vampires and youth culture has influenced subsequent films and shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and True Blood.

It boasted a killer ensemble cast, including megastars at the time like Corey Feldman, Jami Gertz, Corey Haim, Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, and Dianne Wiest.

The film follows two teenage brothers who move with their divorced mother to the fictional town of Santa Carla, California, only to discover that the town is a haven for vampires. With a title inspired by Peter Pan, referencing children who never grow up, the film introduced the idea of a teenage gang of vampires, giving rise to a new subgenre of teen vampire horror.

Presenting a sexy and stylish approach to vampires, The Lost Boys was a critical and financial success, grossing almost four times its budget and spawning a franchise.
