This week, it’s all about surprises, good and bad, with one unexpected hit (The Inheritance) and one big miss (The Mandela Effect Phenomenon).

The Inheritance sounds cut and dry. A rich family comes together for the first time in years to celebrate their father’s 75th birthday. He has brought them together because he knows someone is going to kill him that night, and he wants them to stop it from happening. If they fail, they lose all of their inheritance.
It is not long before things take a completely different turn. What initially sounds like a straightforward mystery becomes a haunted house movie with twists and turns.
Great visuals and a paranoid atmosphere make this one of the most pleasantly surprising movies of the year.
The Inheritance is now available to rent via most PVOD platforms.
And now for something completely different…

On the other end of the spectrum is The Mandela Effect Phenomenon. It sounds interesting enough—a look at the possible causes and what it means for the future of humanity. But from the jump, it is clear that something is very wrong about this documentary.
The film is littered with bad interview subjects who do not seem to know what they are talking about, misleading videos, and contradicting information. It aimlessly wanders until it gets to the actual point. You need to read the Bible. Oh boy.
The Mandela Effect Phenomenon is available on Apple TV.
Every week AIPT Movie Editor Nathaniel Muir and his cinema partner in crime Blake Heath discuss indie and genre movies you have have never heard of, the ones you cannot hear enough about, and the ones you never want to hear about again.
Time moves more quickly now than it ever has. It was not that long ago that we were talking about a new show executive produced by the Duffer brothers. About a month later, it is one and done. As someone once reminded us, we are just two guys who watch movies. Production budgets and domestic grosses are only a passing interest to us. Still, there are some things that catch our attention. Were we right to say that Michael would get to $1 billion? And what does the future hold for Obsession?
There was a major change to our humble little podcast this year. We decided it would be in our best interests to be a little more focused. To that end, we went to just covering one movie each show. Despite this, we still managed to cover twenty-three movies over seventeen episodes. And twenty of them were released in 2026.
So, what do we have to talk about? And will we get as worked up as we did last week? The horrors of high school, zombies, musicals, buff nuns, and grindhouse adjacent fun. It may not all have been good, but everything left some sort of impression on us.
