In honor of our Canadian co-host, we talk creatures, chaos, and corruption with the Canadian horror films “The Void” and “Infinity Pool”.
After a brief hiatus, Casey is back to talk about Canadian horror in honor of his homeland while performing a public service and finally dispelling the American myth that Canadians are friendly and easygoing. Hear us dish about his pick, THE VOID, and Steph’s pick, INFINITY POOL.
The Void is a 2016 Canadian Lovecraftian horror film written and directed by Steven Kostanski and Jeremy Gillespie and produced by Jonathan Bronfman and Casey Walker. It stars Aaron Poole, Kenneth Welsh, Daniel Fathers, Kathleen Munroe, and Ellen Wong. The plot follows a small group of people who become trapped in a hospital by a gathering of hooded cultists and by grotesque creatures. Partially funded by a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo and featuring some jaw-dropping creature effects, The Void has been praised for its visual style, genuine scares, and effective retro-horror atmosphere.
Infinity Pool is a 2023 science fiction horror film written and directed by Brandon Cronenberg, starring Alexander Skarsgård, Mia Goth and Cleopatra Coleman. The film follows a struggling writer and his wife on vacation who, after an accident, discover the country’s dark culture. This film also received positive reviews from critics, with praise for the atmosphere, performances, and Cronenberg’s direction. But not everyone loved its oddball plot and storyline.
