We discuss Family, Fear, and Filmmaking as we go inside the world of an indie filmmaking family with Toby Poser and John Adams.

SHOW NOTES FROM THE GODDAMN GUYS:

Step into the captivating realm of independent cinema with Toby Poser and John Adams. Delve into their unique approach to storytelling, the challenges and triumphs of working as a family unit in the industry, and the creative freedom of being a completely independent movie operation.

Wonder Wheel Productions is the artistic collaboration between Toby Poser, John Adams, and daughters Lulu and Zelda Adams. Wonder Wheel epitomizes a can-do attitude toward independent filmmaking. As cast and crew, they write, act, and shoot. They produce, direct, edit, and score. They’re a small team up for a wildly creative ride.

The family produced four feature films — RUMBLESTRIPSKNUCKLE JACKTHE SHOOT, and Halfway to Zen — that had successful festival runs, winning awards along the way. However, it was their fifth feature, The Deeper You Dig, that catapulted them into the indie horror spotlight. The film offered a moody, twisted, and unique spin on the supernatural horror subgenre, picked up by Dark Sky Films following an illustrious run on the festival circuit and generating enormous buzz and critical/audience acclaim.

They followed that up with the wildly successful HELLBENDER, a film that keeps its mossy roots anchored in the supernatural while reaching gnarled fingers into the hellish and dark. A tale about identity, power, and freedom (slashed with the hot sonics of the family band H6LLB6ND6R), the film was picked up by Yellow Veil Pictures and distributed by the genre powerhouse SHUDDER Films. The film was rated #1 on Rotten Tomatoes’ list of Top Rated Horror films of 2022 and was featured on The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, along with the family’s guest appearance and a special H6LLB6ND6R performance.

Their newest feature, the evocative period piece Where the Devil Roams, takes us back to the dusty, dark days of the Depression as we follow a family of murderous sideshow performers along a dying carnival circuit. The film again joined Yellow Veil Picture’s canon of exciting features and had its World Premiere at the 2023 Fantasia Film Festival.

Tune in for an enlightening conversation that explores the artistry, passion, and dedication behind their cinematic endeavors.
