Escape Room

In another horror movie double-shot, returning guest Donna the Dead, and my daughter, Katrina, help me navigate Escape Room and Escape Room: Tournament of Champions. Do we make it out in time? You’ll have to listen to find out!

Escape Room is a 2019 American psychological horror film directed by Adam Robitel and written by Bragi F. Schut and Maria Melnik. The film follows a group of people who are sent to navigate a series of deadly escape rooms.

Though the film received mixed reviews, it was a surprise commercial success, resulting in Columbia Pictures approving a sequel. The follow-up, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions was released in 2021. Once again directed by Adam Robitel, it was written by Will Honley, Daniel Tuch, Oren Uziel, and returning writer Maria Melnik. The film features returning characters from the first film, alongside new faces. The story revolves around a group of six people trying to survive a new series of more deadly escape rooms.

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions faced several delays due to COVID. Like its predecessor, it was met with mixed reviews. An “extended cut” version was later released, featuring a different opening and ending, as well as large differences in the story and characters featured.
