“30 Days of Night” created a new spin on a classic creature with its memorable claustrophobic setting and entertaining premise.

The Sucky Summer rolls on this week with Josh’s choice, “30 Days of Night” (2007), a pretty gory vampire flick!
FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF:
30 Days of Night is a 2007 American vampire film based on the comic book miniseries of the same name. Directed by David Slade, the film focuses on an Alaskan town beset by vampires as it enters into a 30-day-long polar night. It was originally pitched as a comic, then as a film, but it was rejected. Years later, author Steve Niles showed IDW Publishing the idea, and it took off.
To make the universe more immersive and terrifying, a fictional vampire language with click consonants was constructed with the help of a professor of linguistics and the University of Auckland.
Despite less than glowing critical reviews, the film was a hit with audiences, and its success resulted in a franchise that followed, including a prequel miniseries Blood Trails in 2007, a sequel miniseries Dust to Dust in 2008, and a straight-to-home video sequel film Dark Days in 2010.
The film is currently available to rent on various VOD platforms.
