Your Home for Horror

Even if you love a good theatrical experience, it’s hard to beat the many benefits of watching horror movies streaming at home.

There are many creative and surprisingly beneficial ways to relax and de-stress. Unsurprisingly, one of our favorite ways is to watch horror movies. And while it’s hard to beat a great theatrical experience, there are many reasons why you might prefer to stay home and watch from the convenience of your own living room or bedroom.

The tremendous accessibility of movies through the internet and mobile technology has introduced a much wider array of films to a much broader audience worldwide. This means more filmmakers can have their work discovered, and it’s much easier and less expensive to get films distributed. It’s also much cheaper and easier for audiences to consume this content.

While there are fans, myself included, who love the immersive theatrical experience, it can certainly get costly to go to the theater on a regular basis. And you risk having your viewing experience disrupted by rude moviegoers who insist on talking or using their phones during the show. More importantly, it can be difficult to impossible for some viewers to find the films they want to see playing in their local theater.

If you follow my ongoing Date Night column, you know how much I advocate for a stay-at-home movie night to bring couples (new or old) closer together.

Of course, you don’t have to be coupled up to enjoy the benefits of movie streaming. So, here are just a few reasons any night is a great night for a home movie!

1. Easy Access

As previously mentioned, it can be a blast to head to the theater to see the latest big-budget spectacle on the big screen. But if you watch a lot of movies and enjoy a wide range of options, including movies with smaller budgets that may not get a theatrical showing, being able to see what you want at the press of a button is a pretty huge benefit.

Big-screen televisions and good surround sound are more affordable now than ever, so many of us can enjoy a high-quality movie-watching experience from home. Sure, the screen may be smaller than you get at the theater. But, from the comfort of your couch, that picture is still plenty big enough to experience the filmmaking magic.

It wasn’t long ago when it seemed your only real option for on-demand films was Netflix, and we all know how uninspired that platform’s horror library can be — especially for those who watch a LOT of movies.

Fortunately, demand has increased so considerably that we now have a wealth of streaming platform options and more movies available than most of us could ever have enough time to watch.

Your options range from stellar ad-supported, free-to-watch platforms like Tubi, Plex, and Pluto to premium platforms like Hulu, HBO Max, and Shudder. There are also platforms like Peacock and Vudu that offer both free and paid options. Most major distributors, like Universal Studios, Disney, and Paramount, offer their own platforms with streaming content often released at the same time or shortly following theatrical releases.

No matter what kind of niche content you’re looking for, there is likely a streaming platform dedicated to it — including arthouse and foreign films, anime, and (of course) horror. More new platforms and services appear to be popping up every day.

You can also register with an online platform like slot terbaru to watch movies from any device. While big screens make for a great movie-watching experience, you may want to access these films from a phone, tablet, or laptop for the sake of convenience. Regardless, you’ll be able to access streaming content 24/7. And most platforms no longer limit how many films you can watch in any given time period. So a small investment can give you access to virtually unlimited content.

Now, the hardest part isn’t finding a movie worth watching but rather narrowing down your choice from an endless array of options.

2. Convenient and Affordable

As mentioned earlier, going to the movies can be expensive. And, as the theaters scramble to stay viable in an increasingly on-demand streaming world, they are often forced to raise prices. In fact, ticket prices have increased at least 20 percent since 2019. When you factor in the entire movie-going experience (i.e., drinks and popcorn), it’s pretty common to spend $100 or more on date night at the theater.

It’s not hard to understand why streaming services have become so popular. Even if you opt to purchase a brand-new, in-theater movie from home (averaging about $20), you can still save a considerable amount of money by staying home.

And unlike in the past, when you had to wait months and months for your favorite films to be available for at-home viewing, most movies drop almost simultaneously streaming as they do in theaters (or shortly afterward).

One of my favorite reasons to stay home is that I can also plan exciting double features or themed movie nights, enjoying more than one great film.

If you love movies as much as I do, this is a huge benefit. While some theaters like Alamo Drafthouse do regularly offer wildly fun viewing events with more than one film (and if you get a chance to go to one of these events, I highly encourage you to do so), it’s a pretty rare treat for most of us.

But at home, you can get creative and program some outstanding movie parties and date nights.

One of my favorite things to do is program a “Like That, Try This” movie night where I pair an older classic or hidden gem with a modern horror hit. It’s an especially great way to introduce some of your friends who may not be that versed in the genre to some killer content they’d never otherwise experience.

And, of course, it’s incredibly cozy and convenient to watch movies at home.

You can take breaks whenever you want — including guilt-free potty breaks — without missing any of the action. Pause to serve another course of food or grab some more movie snacks, pour another cocktail, talk about a killer scene you just watched, or IMDb where you know that actor from.

Rewind to see something you missed or relive an especially exciting scene. And, if you have to, break longer movies up into more than one sitting. (I’ve been doing this for some of those 3+ hour-long Oscar-nominated films!)

3. Avoid Stress and Anxiety

For some of us, there is nothing more stimulating than a great night out, and going to the movies can be an exciting adventure.

For others, however, it can be stressful and feel like it’s more work than it is relaxing. We have to get dressed up, plan our schedule to make it there on time, coordinate transportation and factor in drive time, and often deal with a crowded theater.

If you’re an introvert or someone who gets social anxiety, this is not always enjoyable or how you want to spend your night.

Then there are others, like me, who do really enjoy going to the theater — but not all the time. Some nights, especially after a long and hard day at work, the idea of going out sounds horrible.

I watch movies to relax and unwind, and I love being able to get in comfy pajamas, make a delicious snack, and crawl under a comfortable blanket to watch whatever I want as soon as I want to watch it.

When you’re feeling stressed, watching movies at home ensures there’s nothing standing between you and the relaxation movies can bring.

If work is very busy, and I have to stay later than planned, I’m not stressed about missing my movie time. I don’t have to worry about finding something to wear or fixing my hair. I can get as comfy as possible, and I’m in full control of the entire experience.

Watching movie also helps when I’m anxious or depressed, so it can be an excellent at-home remedy for those times when I need a boost.

As soon as I get off work, I can watch a movie. If I can’t sleep at night, I can get up and watch a movie. If the weather is yucky outside, I can watch a movie. If I’m anxious and need to calm down, I can watch a movie. If I want to be alone and avoid people, I can watch a movie.

Whenever I want, wherever I want, without any stress or effort, I can watch a movie.

With the number of streaming platforms and services like situs judi slot terbaik dan terpercaya no 1 platform available to me, I can gorge myself on a constant diet of great film and genre content, and I never get bored or run out of options. So, while I will still support my local theater when I can, I’m so grateful for the many benefits the availability of streaming content gives me.
