KILLER STUFF
Every once in a while, we come across something so amazing, so next level bad ass, that we just have to share. We here at Morbidly Beautiful are serious collectors, major horror nerds, and more than a little toy obsessed. We’ve been fans of the talented team behind THE MISCASTS, an art collective consisting of five insanely talented artists from all over the country, for some time now. Now two of the toy making talents from this group have teamed up to bring you some serious nostalgic goodness from our childhoods, a custom handcrafted and hand painted recreation of My Pet Monster.
For those of you who don’t remember (for shame!), My Pet Monster was a plush doll first produced by American Greetings in 1986. As one of the few plush dolls marketed to boys at the time, My Pet Monster was extremely popular in the late 80s and early 90s. The doll has blue fur, horns and a fanged smile, and is recognizable by its orange plastic handcuffs. The popularity of the toy even spawned a live-action direct-to-video film in 1986.
The spot on recreation was sculpted and painted by Brad Sellers of Arab, Alabama. Brad specializes in custom (often one-of-a-kind) sculptures and custom painting of toys, POPs, busts and other collectibles. He collaborated with Josh Glover, who cast the sculpt in resin and made the custom crates and handcuffs that come with the exclusive, limited edition deluxe versions of the toy. Josh is located in Lufkin, Texas, and specializes in custom cast resin toys. You can find Brad on Instagram @beardedweirdotoys and Josh @beastmanofbersker, where you can view and purchase many of their unique designs.
The custom My Pet Monsters are available for order now. You can order them directly through Brad or Josh’s Instagram pages, or order online at Beastlabs.storenvy.com. A very limited run of only 10 deluxe versions is available for $60 each, including shipping within the United States. The deluxe version includes the handmade display crate, orange mini cuffs, and a signed and numbered Certificate of Authority. I just talked to Brad, and he said several of the deluxe versions have already been claimed, so be sure to HURRY if you want to snag one of these.
You can also order the standard version with just the hand sculpted and painted My Pet Monster for only $40 (shipping included). There is also a tinted resin version (shown above in black), available for $30. Each one is made to order and will ship within 30 days of purchase.
Be sure to order yours today!
