Kyle Toucher crafted a unique landscape, inviting the reader to roam its twisted paths.

The Medusa Psalms is a collection of tales inspired by Toucher’s quirky, eccentric, dark world of Walpurgis County. Each story is like a road map or path, beckoning readers to experience different aspects of its twisted terrain.

We get a fun-house view of distorted reality through Toucher’s lens. The stories are original, thought-provoking, and suspenseful, with a dash of humor added. Toucher weaves these elements together seamlessly while offering classic horror themes such as demonic possession, haunted houses, witches, and conspiracies.

Toucher also doesn’t skimp on gore. He masterfully crafts prose that imprints a memorable, grotesque image on the reader’s mind.

In “Strange Acres,” Toucher opens with a gripping contrast between timelessness and modernity. Beeley, a shallow, social media-obsessed young woman, stops at Copperhead Farms to snap the perfect ‘Halloweenie’ photo. While the vendor shares an intriguing story about a cult, Beeley is more interested in her phone’s notifications.

Toucher masterfully sets the stage for Beeley’s inevitable encounter with the supernatural, blending sarcasm and satire to critique our social-media-driven society.

Toucher adds a dash of humor in just the right places.

One particular line, depicting Beeley’s inner thoughts, paints a vivid portrait of who she is: “She had no idea what zealots were” but she knew that persecutors worked for the court, and of course, at Halloween, you had to mention witches.”

“Flight 2320” introduces a gripping scenario as a pilot announces that he’s going to crash the plane. The situation is compelling as it is but Toucher also injects tongue-in-cheek humor with dialogue such as “You cowards can all kiss my ass. We’re not out eight grand for a vacation rental because Captain Shitstain has mommy problems. What happened to the whole ‘Let’s Roll’ mentality?”

Take an excursion into Walpurgis County with the Medusa Psalms; it’s guaranteed to be a journey you’ll never forget.

From time warps to conspiracies and cosmic horrors, Toucher serves up an intriguing array of tales that any horror fan will delightfully devour.
