It may be Thanksgiving, but we’re still Halloween dreaming on this week’s “Not Your Final Girl”, where we talk witches in “Suspiria” and “Diabla”.
THIS EPISODE: WITCH, PLEASE (WITH SPECIAL GUEST MAYA KORN)
We’re back, ghouls! We were tempted to call this one “Witches Ain’t Shit”, except that really isn’t true since the witches in both our movies are powerful and mysterious — and we definitely don’t want to incur their wrath.
Thank you very much to our delightful guest, film producer Maya Korn, for our double feature today: Dario Argento’s Suspiria (1977) and Maya’s own production, the horror short Diabla (2019). Suspiria is a classic and a massive influence on modern horror from its fever dream visuals to its synths. Also maggots fall from the ceiling, which always soothes the soul. Following that, Diabla is as new, throbbing, and raw as a freshly severed body part. Sound intriguing? Wait til you watch it.
We know it’s almost Thanksgiving, but we recorded this episode closer to Halloween, so that’s why we spend the beginning talking about costumes. Just pretend we’re talking about cosplay. We look forward to the day ComicCon is back in person so Candace can be seen in her full Sexy Jon Arbuckle regalia.
Great news! Diabla is on the festival circuit, meaning you can get in on this indie horror action. Keep up with it here: facebook.com/DiablaFilm/ and https://www.instagram.com/diablafilm/.
