It’s the best time of the year, and these three great horror anthologies should keep fans of horror fiction satiated for the Halloween season and beyond.

One of the many things I LOVE about October is all the new horror anthologies that are released! Every September, I take a peek at Amazon to see what horrific tomes are coming this October…and, within the first few pages of “coming soon”, I’m NEVER disappointed. With that said, here are three horror anthologies being released this October that caught my eye on Amazon.

The Valancourt Book of Horror Stories: Volume Two (Release date: October 2)

The first book in The Valancourt Book of Horror Stories series was great, or so I heard. To be honest, it’s still sitting on my “to read” shelf. But, from all accounts, it contained in its pages a lot of authors whose work many of my friends (and apparently many fellow Amazon buyers) had never heard of, or had heard of but never read!

The second volume in this series seems to promise even more not-well-known horror, as well as “…a previously unpublished ghost story by Nevil Shute” and “…a brand-new tale by award-winning author Stephen Gregory”. Looks like my still unread Volume One will be getting a shelf mate!

Colonial Horrors: Sleepy Hollow and Beyond (Release date: October 3)

This anthology looks to be the anthology I would have put together if I wasn’t beaten to it — featuring tales by American horror greats and house hold names such as Edgar Allan Poe, H. P. Lovecraft, Washington Irving, and Nathaniel Hawthorne. It also includes tales by other authors whose names many might not be as familiar to readers.

This anthology looks to be a great crash course on American horror fiction, steeped in its tri-cornered hat and buckled shoes birth. Excited? Oh yeah! Peeved that I didn’t get to compile this anthology myself? Oh yeah.

The Year’s Best Dark Fantasy & Horror 2017 Edition (Release date: October 17)

Last year’s edition was great, so I have no doubt this year’s will be to! Paula Guran is an anthology veteran who always delivers on the goods. With authors like Brian Hodge, Livia Llewellyn, Victor LaValle and Angela Slatter included in its pages, I have doubt this edition will be another winner.
