“The flu pandemic happened, and the war happened, and people died, so charlatans took advantage of that. And UFOs are real, and it’s all gonna happen again now, because things are gonna go awry pretty soon. Just saying. History repeats itself, bitches.” (Five second summary)

In this episode of the PaNcast, Chaos and Carnage join a spiritualist debunker with a secret past who works with the police shutting down charlatans who rip off the grieving families trying to contact their deceased loved ones. Florence is called to debunk a haunting at a boy’s boarding school in the country where a ghost may have caused the death of a child.

“This is a time for ghosts.” – THE AWAKENING

Awakening

After the flu pandemic and the war, people are looking for answers and comfort with so many dead. The spiritualist movement is born, and with it, the seance. Spiritual mediums claimed they could talk to the dead loved ones with the help of seances and spirit boards, making their livings preying off of grieving people.

Our hero Florence is an author who writes books about how ghosts aren’t real and spends her free time exposing fraudulent mediums. So she is uninterested when a teacher from a boy’s boarding school comes to her to plead she come investigate a haunting.

Eventually, though, her empathy for the terrified boys at the school wins her over, and she returns to the school ready to show the children that there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for their ghost sightings. She herself was haunted by trauma in her youth, and she wants to help the young boys get their peace of mind back.

Finding the ghost proves to take longer than Florence planned, however — between chucking herself into a lake, complicated FEELINGS for the war hero with survivor’s guilt, and the stalker head matron who knows way more about Florence than she should. And that’s not to mention her growing attachment to the little boy left behind when all the other children went home for break. Will Florence leave the school alive? Go check out The Awakening and come back for our take!
