Breaking News: Salem Horror Fest introduces Women With Guts, a highly anticipated new genre conference with a girl-powered focus coming May 2020.

The spotlight is on women at Salem Horror Fest’s newest event.

Known as the SXSW of horror, Salem Horror Fest is a celebration of the genre that takes place every October in the Halloween-capital of the world: Salem, Massachusetts. Their mission is to explore how scary stories reflect cultural anxieties to better understand the mechanics of fear. In addition to premieres and repertory film screenings, Salem Horror Fest offers panel discussions, live podcasts, celebrity meet & greets, concerts, art exhibits and more.

But their commitment to celebrating the diverse voices of the genre doesn’t end there. The Salem Horror Fest hosts special events and experiences all year long. This year, the fest will be showcasing the work of the talented women from the horror genre, featuring female creators from film, tv, podcasts, and print.

The exciting new event, Women with Guts, will take over The Bridge at 211 in Salem, Massachusetts from Friday, May 8th to Sunday, May 10th, 2020.

The conference will include film screenings, speaker panels, and networking opportunities by and for women of the horror industry. News about the event is being released bit by bit, but the official Salem Horror Fest Twitter account has been outfitted to promote the event. Here’s what we know so far.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet industry powerhouses, including author and public speaker Victoria Price (The Way of Being Lost: A Roadmap to Your Truest Self) and actress Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp). Director Chelsea Stardust will host a Q&A following a screening of her film Satanic Panic.

Journalists Andrea Subissati and Alexandra West will present a live version of their podcast, The Faculty of Horror. Subissati and West will also give lectures on martyrdom in horror and women’s autonomy in the genre, respectively.

Other presenters include Alison Lang (editor, Women with Guts: Horror Heroines in Film, TV, and Print), Stacie Ponder (creator, Final Girl blog) and Sady Doyle (author, Dead Blondes and Bad Mothers: Monstrosity, Patriarchy, and the Fear of Female Power). Additional guests include podcast host, director, and film professor Dr. Rebekah McKendry and writer and producer Ashlee Blackwell.
