We discuss a key film in Nic Cage’s triumphant return to horror greatness, the haunting and atmospheric revenge tale “Mandy”.

This week it’s Professor Smoak’s choice, and he picked the 2018 action horror cult favorite MANDY starring Nicolas Cage & directed by Panos Cosmatos!

In the Pacific Northwest in 1983, outsiders Red Miller and Mandy Bloom lead a loving and peaceful existence. When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand, Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with deadly fire.

Mandy premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival on January 19 and was theatrically released on September 14, 2018, by RLJE Films.

The film was praised for its style and originality, Cage’s performance, Cosmatos’ direction, and the action sequences. It is one of the last films scored by Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who died in February 2018. The film is dedicated to him.
