The Weedhacker Massacre (2025)/Other (2025)
Low-budget horror is supposed to be gross and fun. Especially when you have a title like The Weedhacker Massacre. Anything besides the laughs and gore is a bonus.
Unfortunately, The Weedhacker Massacre‘s attempts at humor rarely work. And it has little in the way of gore. This means it has to focus on story and acting.
It goes about as well as expected.
Other is saved by its amazing lead performance. This includes a main character who gives you plenty of reasons to get behind her, but does everything to push you away. It is one of the strangest written characters we have ever seen.
The film is also strange. It is tense and scary, but not noticeably so. It has an interesting premise, but nothing stands out.
A poorly done twist and a hilarious reveal certainly don’t help the outing.
Ash (2025)/Good Boy (2025)
After watching the trailer for Ash, it is hard not to wonder if they used all the good shots for it. After seeing the actual movie, you realized that they could have picked any part of the film and it would have looked great. It also features some top-notch performances and an engaging mystery.
So why do so many people hate it? It probably has to do with the climax, which ruins all the goodwill Ash had built up.
The over-the-top nature is subjective, and some people will enjoy it. But its decision to completely rip off Alien is hard to ignore.
Good Boy does not hide the fact that it is a gimmick. It is a haunted house story in which the main character is a dog. But not only is Indy the main character, he is pretty much the only one. The story and camera are completely different, focused on him.
Does it move past this and become something that audiences can become attached to? Well, if you have ever had a pet, you will love Good Boy. And if you have not had one, it will make you want to get one.
Oh yeah. It is also scary, has great storytelling, and features one of the most emotionally impactful movies we have seen all year.

Episode 370: Mid year recap
Time moves more quickly now than it ever has. It was not that long ago that we were talking about a new show executive produced by the Duffer brothers. About a month later, it is one and done. As someone once reminded us, we are just two guys who watch movies. Production budgets and domestic grosses are only a passing interest to us. Still, there are some things that catch our attention. Were we right to say that Michael would get to $1 billion? And what does the future hold for Obsession?
There was a major change to our humble little podcast this year. We decided it would be in our best interests to be a little more focused. To that end, we went to just covering one movie each show. Despite this, we still managed to cover twenty-three movies over seventeen episodes. And twenty of them were released in 2026.
So, what do we have to talk about? And will we get as worked up as we did last week? The horrors of high school, zombies, musicals, buff nuns, and grindhouse adjacent fun. It may not all have been good, but everything left some sort of impression on us.
