EPISODE SUMMARY
This week, we talk about 2021’s Dune. We have been talking about this movie for years and were all extremely excited to see it. The question is not if we liked the movie, but how much. There is no way any of us would dislike the movie, right?

ABOUT THIS EPISODE (143):

***SPOILER WARNING! WE DISCUSS DUNE AND MAJOR PLOT REVELATIONS***

Dune was one of the most anticipated movies of the year. We talk about whether a person can get into the movie without having read the books first. Right off the bat, one of us is very upset about how confusing everything is. This begs the question: there is no doubting how gorgeous the film is; but is it just a case of style over substance?

We also try to figure out the odd line deliveries and naming conventions. Timothee Chalamet has proven he is one of the best young actors today. Why does his science fiction hero speak like every other YouTuber? And why do the most important characters have such normal names?

The three of us also talk about the direction outside of the grand sci-fi moments, compare this version to David Lynch’s much-maligned 1984 attempt (you will be surprised who has nice things to say about it…well, maybe not), and talk about how there is only one way to watch Dune.

I remember how gorgeous The Cell was at the time. John Carter was also quite pretty. The original Dune, while flawed, is so iconic for my generation that I almost want to avoid this one altogether but am on the fence. Thank you for the honest discussion. It makes it a little easier to decide on how to spend my allowance.
