October is a month for glorifying horror, but we keep things interesting and important with Blacktober, a celebration of Black Horror.

Blacktober Blade

Donna Tha Dead closes out Blacktober, her incredible monthlong celebration of Black Horror, by sharing listener-submitted favorites. It’s an incredible list of strong and memorable Black characters in iconic horror movies. It’s a fantastic episode to close out the month, and there are some outstanding recommendations for must-see Black Horror films you need to add to your watchlist if you haven’t already seen them. The list includes:

  • Candyman
  • Demons
  • Vamp
  • The Thing
  • Deep Blue Sea
  • The Girl With All the Gifts
  • Vampire in Brooklyn
  • Little Monsters
  • Return of the Living Dead
  • Queen of the Damned
  • Scream 2
  • Blade

In case you missed any of the other Blacktober highlights, be sure to listen to these episodes and check out these phenomenal films.

THE BEAST MUST DIE (1974)

For Donna’s final pick of Blacktober, she goes with The Beast Must Die (1974). This is a very campy and unusual werewolf horror mystery film that stars Calvin Lockhart, Marlene Clark, Peter Cushing, and a few other stars. Let’s stay at this English manor for the weekend and see if we can figure out who the werewolf is before they get us.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968/1990)

Donna gushes about her love of Night of the Living Dead — both the 1968 and the 1990 versions. She discusses her first-ever horror heartbreak with the character Ben, brilliantly portrayed by Duane Jones and Tony Todd. Also, for the first time in a long time, this is a spoiler-filled episode. But I think, after 56 years, I think we’re in the clear. So get in this farmhouse with Donna, and let’s survive this zombie apocalypse together.

DEMON KNIGHT (1995)

Donna kicked off her Blacktober series with the Ernest Dickerson directed Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight (1995). We have a random group of people in a boarding house trying to survive the night. Why? Well, to keep demons from collecting the key needed to put the world back into darkness. Come listen to her thoughts on this film and why the Tales from the Crypt films need to come back. Spoiler-free and also demon-free (maybe!).
