Every character in a horror movie has a chance to stay alive. No matter how badly the odds are stacked against them, at least one of a killer’s potential victims often finds a way to escape. Some victims, like Sidney Prescott or Laurie Strode, even find a way to defy insurmountable odds and survive facing off against a vicious killer more than once.

To survive a horror film, you have to find ways to increase your odds. In a slasher, that often means avoiding certain “sins” like premarital sex, making smart decisions, and keeping your head on straight as the body count rises.

Just like every character has a chance to survive a horror film, every player has a chance to win at the casino. And just like in the movies, walking away victorious depends on doing what you can to stack the odds in your favor. For example, If you consider yourself a gambler and want to increase your chances of winning, it’s best to play table games. Winning at slots is a lot like getting out of Camp Crystal Lake with your life. It’s certainly possible, but we wouldn’t bet on it.

You also want to be sure you’re not purposely putting yourself in harm’s way; be sure to choose a reliable, licensed casino that doesn’t cheat its players. And if you want more tips that will put you closer to the winner’s circle, be sure to see this fast paying casinos review.

Whether you’re gambling with your person or your paycheck, it’s always best to know the odds. So, let’s take a look at the horror films and games with the greatest and least chance of “survival.”

Ranking Your Chances of Survival in Popular Horror Films

In a horror movie, your odds of success — i.e., survival — depend on a combination of your luck, your smarts and skill, and how much the odds are stacked against you. When battling baddies with supernatural powers, the odds are definitely not in your favor. And winning against an unkillable foe is almost impossible. You also need to hope you’re not facing a villain clever enough to outsmart you at every turn, or that you don’t find yourself in a killer’s backyard where he or she has considerable home-field advantage.

Here’s a breakdown of your odds of surviving the genre’s most iconic killers, from the highest to the lowest rate of survival, as calculated by ReelRundown.com — based on the ratio of survivors to victims across all films in a franchise.

1. A Nightmare on Elm Street

Survival Odds: 28.6%

Freddy Krueger is a supernatural threat with a wicked sense of a humor and an even more wicked bloodlust. He stalks his victims in their dreams, where it is almost impossible to escape. Because Freddy’s dream world isn’t subject to the same rules and limitations as the waking world, his victims tend to be helpless against him. Still, Freddy is not without his vulnerabilities. Like Pennywise in It, he feeds on fear. So the best way to take away his power is to show no fear — admittedly, no easy task. He can also be pulled into the real world where he is as vulnerable as any human. And, of course, you’re safe as long as you can keep yourself awake. Though that will only save you temporarily. Once you close your eyes, more than likely, it’s game over.

2. Halloween

Survival Odds: 23.5%

An unstoppable, indestructible force of nature, Michael Myers is a soulless, singularly focused killing machine. That makes him quite a formidable foe. He’s also supernaturally strong. Once you cross paths with him, it’s highly unlikely you’ll live to tell the tale. Despite his many assets, speed isn’t one of them. So escape is possible if you can keep him at a distance. The odds of survival here may seem relatively high compared to other masked murderers. But that’s because most who survive an encounter with Myers are children. Though he may have the devil’s eyes and a vengeful spirit, this monster appears to have a soft spot for kids.

3. Child’s Play

Survival Odds: 20%

Though it seems your odds of winning a battle against a 2′ doll would be quite high, that’s just not the case when that doll contains the spirit of a nasty serial killer who also happens to be quite clever. Those odds deteriorate rapidly when said killer doll takes an equally twisted bride — and even produces offspring. Now, unlike the other killers on this list, you have a decent chance of overpowering these deadly dolls and dealing fatal damage. But that’s only if you play your cards exactly right and never underestimate just how big of a threat these tiny terrors truly are.

4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Survival Odds: 12.5%

If you’re unlucky enough to stumble into the Sawyer family slaughterhouse, don’t expect to leave in one piece. Throughout the series, more than 50 victims met horrific fates at the hands of Leatherface and his cannibal clan, and only a handful of lucky (can we really call them lucky?) souls survived the meathook. You might manage to escape at first, but almost everyone eventually finds their way back into deep Texas trouble. This is a Southern hellscape where nowhere is safe and no one can be trusted. Strangely enough, if you’re a lady, you have more of a fighting chance than your male companions. But even if you do manage to survive, get ready for some serious PTSD.

5. Friday the 13th

Survival Odds: 10.5%

Let’s face it, those are some pretty crappy odds. Camp Crystal Lake may as well have a sign hanging over it that says, “Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here.” Like Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees is a mask-wearing, superhuman death dealer who can’t be stopped and is virtually impossible to defend against. But Voorhees is even more effective — and far more prolific. This hulking, machete-wielding terror has killed over 200 people and almost never leaves survivors. Your best and really only hope is to actually listen when the seemingly crazy locals try to warn you to stay the hell away from Camp Blood.

Ranking Your Chances of Winning Popular Casino Games

The same principles apply when testing your odds at a casino as they do in surviving horror films. Just as the killer is always more likely to dominate in any horror film, the odds are always in the casino’s favor. That’s of course because the primary goal of any casino is to make a profit. As a general rule, each casino has a built-in edge of 2-3%. However, it can reach as high as 4-5% or be as low as 1% in some games.

Think of a casino’s profit margin as their kill count. The higher the number, the more likely you are to bite the dust. Here’s a rundown of casino games, ranked from your best bet to your biggest gamble.

1. Blackjack

Blackjack has the best chance of success at the casino. The house edge in blackjack ranges from 0.13% to 1%. That is why the probability of winning in this game is relatively high. In addition, you are playing against a dealer, not a professional player.

2. Craps

Craps may seem a challenging game for beginners. However, craps casino profits are meager, so this game can bring you good payouts. The house edge ranges from 0.6% to 1.2%.

3. Roulette

The advantage of the casino in roulette is only 2.7%. It is considered a relatively simple game and brings good payouts. Bet on your favorite number or color. If your number comes up, you are the winner.

4. Big Six Wheel

The Big Six Wheel game has simple mechanics, but it is tough to win. The house edge reaches 24.07%, so we advise you to bypass the Big Six Wheel.

5. Slot Machines

In 12 films, Jason has killed over 200 people. He can find you anywhere; there is no escape. In slot machines, the chances of hitting the jackpot are also frighteningly small — about 1 in 49836032.
