Morbidly Beautiful

Your Home for Horror

Women’s Month may be over, but it’s always a good time to celebrate influential female filmmakers like French director Julia Ducournau.

Episode 42: Raw (2016) and Titane (2021)

Having just celebrated Women in Horror Month, we were inspired to put the spotlight on the French film director Julia Ducournau.

We are discussing her debut feature film Raw (2016) and her most recent release Titane (2021), which made her only the second female director to ever win a Palme d’Or award. We will also be briefly discussing her short film from 2011, Junior.

The themes that we will be dissecting will be body horror from the female gaze, the monstrous feminine, as well as sexuality and gender as represented in Julia’s films.

Enjoy and welcome to our dark side…
