Horror is as much education as entertainment. Take our quiz to see if you recognize the genre gem based on the pearls of wisdom it offers.

The pursuit of knowledge is one of the most worthy goals a person can have. It helps broaden your social awareness, makes you more empathetic and open-minded, offers a sense of fulfillment and self-actualization, and inspires curiosity and wonder.

Institutes of higher learning are designed to provide both broad-based and field-specific knowledge to help you grow, develop, and prepare to reach your long-term career goals. It’s important to not only learn how to be self-sufficient and productive but also to discover when and how to seek help, such as a dissertation help service, to make the most efficient use of your time, and to learn from the expertise of others.

But intellectual growth doesn’t just happen on a campus. There is much to be learned from books, online research, documentary films, and even horror films.

That’s right! Your favorite form of relaxation and entertainment could also be teaching you valuable lessons. Not only does horror offer proven psychological and mental health benefits, but it also has much to teach about social issues and human nature.

As part of your horror education, we’ve prepared the following quiz. Try to guess the horror film from the valuable life lesson it teaches.

1. Trust your instincts and speak up if you’re in an uncomfortable situation.

We’re taught that kindness is the most important virtue, and many of us think it’s best to hold our tongues rather than risk upsetting someone. But going with the flow, even when it’s clear something isn’t right, can have disastrous consequences.

SPEAK NO EVIL (directed by Christian Tafdrup from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother Mads) – A Danish couple is invited to stay with another couple they met briefly on vacation. Soon, their hosts begin to test the limits of their guests. The situation quickly goes from awkward to unnerving to downright terrifying.
2. Don’t expect to change your life without changing yourself.

Sometimes, we think all we need is a little change to fix everything — a change of scenery, a new job, a long vacation away from the stresses of daily life. But you can’t fix an internal problem through external changes. You can’t run away from yourself. The only way to fight your inner demons is to face them. Ignoring the problem will only leave you feeling haunted.

Trapped inside during a massive snowstorm and isolated, his sanity deteriorates, putting his wife and child in mortal danger.
3. Unresolved grief and guilt can manifest in horrific ways.

Letting go and healing is never easy. But holding on to the pain and letting it inform the choices you make can have a devastating impact on your life. If we listen only with our hearts and not our heads, we can easily be manipulated and misled by those who wish us harm.

4. Never fail to do the right thing because it’s too hard or inconvenient.

Many disasters can be averted if we heed the warning signs, honor the systems in place to keep us safe, and don’t let our own pride, selfishness, ego, or apathy keep us from doing what we know is right. If we don’t save ourselves, we can’t expect anyone else to do it for us.

Seeking solace in a dysfunctional codependent relationship can do far more damage, exasperating the feelings of loneliness, isolation, and despair.
