In 2020, resolve to put your love of writing and passion for the genre to good use at Morbidly Beautiful. We’re adding writers to our team!

Have you ever wanted to be an important part of a high quality, rapidly growing horror community? If so, there’s never been a better time than right now. We’ve got big plans to expand in 2020, and we need more passionate and dedicated writers to help us accomplish our goals. So we’re kicking off the new year by adding to our team, and we have several writing opportunities for the right candidates.

Read below to learn more about specific writing positions we are currently looking to fill, including details on what we’re looking for and how to apply. 

Note: The following opportunities are unpaid. Morbidly Beautiful is a not for profit site. All of our writers and contributors are volunteers. We have lots of other perks for those who contribute to our site. But this is a site for people who truly love the genre and want to have a professional and reputable platform for engaging with other genre fans. 

News Writer

New in 2020, Morbidly Beautiful is adding a news division to enhance our content offering. Features, reviews and editorials will still be prominently featured on our site. However, we know many of you are looking for more timely news updates from the site to help you stay on top of everything happening in the world of horror. As a result, we need a team of writers focused on writing quick turn, short form news pieces .

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. Posts are time sensitive. You must be able to be responsive and turn content (usually around 300 words) quickly as news breaks.
  2. You will work closely with the News Editor to respond to assignments, as well as regularly pitching news content.
  3. As a news writer posting at least once a week, you’ll be assigned lead writer status on our site and will have your own profile with photo and bio, access to our private Facebook group, and the ability to contribute your own feature/editorial content as well.
  4. Preference will be given to those who are active on social media and those willing to share Morbidly Beautiful content on their social media channels. Participation in our private Facebook group is required. 
  5. No experience is necessary, but you must have strong writing skills and excellent grammar.

You will be asked to submit a couple of guest posts for evaluation before joining the site, and you should be prepared to pitch topics for your guest posts.

Film Reviewer (Features and Shorts)

We always have more screeners than we can handle. As a film reviewer, you’ll have access to our regularly updated digital screening library and the opportunity to cover multiple film fests throughout the year (both onsite as well as remote).

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. You must be able to commit to watching and reviewing a film in a timely manner, typically within one week of receiving your screener access.
  2. You must be comfortable writing honest, thoughtful, and compelling reviews. You should be able to provide both positive and negative reviews, which are professional and well balanced.
  3. You can set your own schedule and determine how often you want to contribute content, but we prefer writers who can review at least 2 films a month.
  4. Preference will be given to those who are active on social media and those willing to share Morbidly Beautiful content on their social media channels. Participation in our private Facebook group is required. 
  5. No experience is necessary, but you must have strong writing skills and excellent grammar.

You will also be asked to submit a couple of guest reviews for evaluation before joining the site. Screening links will be provided if you’re selected for our audition process.
