Join the Spookshow podcast crew for their “Sasquatch Summer” series, exploring some of the best and weirdest Bigfoot movies ever made.

Hey there, Spookshow listeners! Remember all those killer chillers we dove into this past winter, full of icy landscapes and abominable snowmen? Well, we finally made it through the cold and snowy season of Polar Predators to spring into the warmer days ahead. But this summer, we’re heating things up even more. The days are long and the nights are warm, so it’s the perfect time to get cozy on the porch with a tall glass of iced tea and let us introduce you to some of the biggest and hairiest cryptids in the horror world.

Join us as we head into the woods for an unforgettable look at the mysterious world of the elusive sasquatch. Welcome to Sasquatch Summer!

NIGHT OF THE DEMON (1980)

What better way to kick things off than with a movie that has it all: a group of students, a professor, and an elusive cryptid. Join us as we discuss Night of the Demon, a cult classic from 1980 that pits unsuspecting researchers against a vengeful sasquatch. Is it a man in a suit or a truly terrifying creature? Get ready for some hairy encounters, some questionable research, and a whole lot of mayhem. This is one creature feature you won’t want to miss!

SASQUATCH SUNSET (2024)

Sasquatch Sunset

This episode is a little different. Most Sasquatch movies feature humans facing off against a monstrous cryptid, but what about a film that shows us life through the eyes of the Sasquatch? Starring Jesse Eisenberg and Riley Keough in some fantastic prosthetics, Sasquatch Sunset is a bizarre, absurd, and surprisingly poignant look at a year in the life of a Sasquatch family.

More of a nature documentary with no dialogue, it’s filled with physical comedy, grotesque humor, and moments of genuine emotion as this family travels through the wilderness, searching for their place in an ever-changing world. It might not be a horror movie, but this cult oddity still has a whole lot to say.

You can watch the Sasquatch Sunset trailer to get a feel for the movie’s unique tone.

CREATURE FROM BLACK LAKE (1976)

Creature from Black Lake

We’re taking a trip down to the Louisiana bayou for a very specific kind of swamp thing. Get ready to face the Creature from Black Lake! This 1976 cult classic takes a page from the docu-drama style of The Legend of Boggy Creek, following two anthropology students who head to a small Louisiana town to investigate a series of creature sightings. They encounter plenty of local color, including a skeptical sheriff and a grizzled old trapper played by the legendary Jack Elam. But as they get closer to the truth, they realize they’re not just looking for a myth, they’re hunting a monster.

Join us as we talk about this hairy, menacing, and very southern sasquatch film—from the classic creature feature tropes to the surprisingly good cinematography from a young Dean Cundey, and whether or not you can outrun a Bigfoot in a swamp.

HARRY AND THE HENDERSONS (1987)

From the monstrous to the majestic, our Sasquatch Summer has taken us on a wild ride. We’ve seen creatures from the deepest swamps and darkest forests, but today, we’re bringing Bigfoot right into the living room! That’s right, we’re talking about the 1987 family classic, Harry and the Hendersons.

After a family road trip, the Hendersons accidentally hit what they think is a man with their car, only to discover it’s a real-life Sasquatch. But this isn’t your average monster movie. Instead of a killer cryptid, they find a kind-hearted, gentle giant who they name Harry. Join us as we discuss this heartwarming and hilarious film.

BOGGY CREEK (2011)

We’re taking on a modern creature feature that’s a direct homage to a Bigfoot classic. While not a direct remake of The Legend of Boggy Creek , the 2010 film Boggy Creek takes a group of college students through swamplands inspired by those that made the Fouke Monster famous.

Following the death of her father, a young woman and her friends travel to his remote cabin in the Texas woods for a weekend getaway. But their quiet retreat turns into a fight for survival as they discover the local legend of a vicious, man-killing beast is very real. Join us as we discuss this low-budget, Texas-filmed thriller and figure out if these campers have what it takes to survive a night with the monster of Boggy Creek.

THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK (1972)

If you enjoyed our last episode discussing Boggy Creek, join us we go back to the original film that inspired it. This isn’t your typical horror movie; it’s a docu-drama that blends real-life witness accounts with chilling re-enactments. Shot on location in Fouke, Arkansas, it tells the eerie tale of a creature said to inhabit the swamplands, a hairy beast that attacks livestock and terrorizes the locals.

Join us as we talk about the film that captured a generation’s imagination—and the infamous Fouke Monster that made so many people truly believe. Get ready for a trip back in time to the swamp that started a legend.

AMERICA 3000 (1986)

Our Sasquatch Summer has brought us everything from gentle giants to killer cryptids, but now we’re heading into a whole new world. A world where women rule with an iron fist, men are either slaves or wild, feral beasts, and the only hope for humanity is a mysterious hero from the past.

We’re taking a deep dive into the 1986 post-apocalyptic cult classic, America 3000. Produced by the legendary Cannon Films, this wild movie is part Mad Max, part Planet of the Apes, and… well, it has its very own Sasquatch-like creature. It’s an absurd, over-the-top, and often unintentionally hilarious look at a future where the world is woggos and the only way to survive is to be a macho.

Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project (2025)

After a summer spent in the swamps, forests, and suburban homes of our favorite cryptid, our Sasquatch Summer is coming to an end. But we can’t wrap up our journey without talking about the Bigfoot footage that started it all: the Patterson-Gimlin film. This week, we’re not talking about the 1967 footage itself, but a brand-new film that takes a very unique, and very meta, look at it. Today, we’re discussing Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project.

This hilarious and horrifying mockumentary follows a delusional filmmaker who sets out to create the greatest found-footage horror movie of all time, based on the infamous Patterson film. What starts as a chaotic, low-budget comedy quickly spirals into something much darker as the lines between movie magic and terrifying reality begin to blur. Join us as we explore this perfect blend of horror and comedy.

CRY WILDERNESS (1987)

This movie is a fascinating blend of adventure and cryptid lore. It follows a young boy named Paul who is sent to live with his father in the wilderness. Paul has a special connection with a wolf, and the two become unlikely allies when they realize that the local Bigfoot, who has a telepathic connection with the wolf, is being hunted by ruthless poachers.

Join us as we talk about this wholesome, 80s creature feature. It’s not a horror movie, but it has plenty of heart, some great shots of nature, and a unique take on the Sasquatch as a protector rather than a predator. It’s a classic family adventure that proves that not all monsters are bad, and it’s the perfect way to bring our chaotic, creature-filled Summer fun to an end.

BYE BYE BIGFOOT: SASQUATCH SUMMER FINALE

After weeks of trekking through spooky swamps, eerie forests, and even the Louisiana bayou, our Sasquatch Summer has finally reached its end.

We’ve seen it all, from killer cryptids and family-friendly giants to a creature with a penchant for disco dancing. It’s been an unforgettable journey filled with scares, laughs, and plenty of questionable prosthetics.

Join us as we recap our hairy highlights and lowlights of the series. We’ll look back on our favorite films, the weirdest Sasquatch moments, and explore which of our picks truly captured the spirit of Bigfoot. So grab your last cup of iced tea before the Fall chill creeps into the air, and let’s celebrate the end of a truly monstrous summer!
