On this week’s “Cheer and Loathing”, we kick off “Musical March” with a science fiction double feature of “Rocky” and “Repo”.

THIS EPISODE: “THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW” AND “REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA”

You’re arrived on a very special night. Now that February is over, we’ve put Nic back in his Cage, and we’ll be sounding off about horror musicals all month long. That’s right…it’s Musical March! And we’re ranting and raving about two paradigms of rock opera: The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) and Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008). Stephanie craves these cult classics like a junkie craves Zydrate pressed against their anatomy. But do they strike a chord with Casey, Mister “I hate musicals” himself? Tune in to find out!

Don’t forget that each month you have a chance to win a killer prize just for leaving a review of the show on iTunes (or the platform of your choice) or leaving us a short voice message telling us what you think of the show, leaving a suggestion for a future episode, or just letting us know how wrong one or both of us are! You can do that right here: https://anchor.fm/cheerandloathing/message.

Be sure to head over to our Instagram page at @morbidlybeautifulhorror or @srgreenhaw. Find one of our Cheer and Loathing posts and leave a comment letting us know you left a review or voice message. This makes sure we can reach you to send you your prize if you win!

In the U.S. where Stephanie is, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is not currently streaming anywhere for free, but you can rent it on most VOD platforms. In Canada where Casey lives, it’s showing on Disney Plus. Repo! The Genetic Opera is available in the U.S. for free on Prime, or free with ads on Roku and Tubi. It’s available on both Prime and Tubi in Canada as well.

Tune in next week (3/14) where we’ll be continuing Musical March, discussing Sweeney Todd and Little Shop of Horrors

ABOUT THIS PODCAST

Cheer and Loathing

She’s a lover, he’s a fighter. Together, they’re CHEER AND LOATHING.

Tune in to hear your hosts, Stephanie (Cheer) and Casey (Loathing), clash over the films they love — and the ones they love to hate. With a new theme each month and related topics each week, they’ll make a case for the good and the bad; it may even get a bit ugly!

Stephanie (Cheer) is the Editor-in-Chief for Morbidly Beautiful, and Casey (Loathing) is the Program Director and host of the Ominous Origins Podcast.

New episodes of the CHEER AND LOATHING podcast drop the first three Sundays of every month, with possible bonus content every fourth Sunday based on listener feedback.

ABOUT CHEER AND LOATHING
Cheer and Loathing is hosted by Stephanie Malone and Casey Chaplin. You can find Stephanie on Instagram at @srgreenhaw or on Twitter at @smalonedesign. Casey, unsurprisingly, hates social media. But you can still follow him on Instagram @ominousoriginspod and Twitter at @horrorshotsprod. Check out our show page on Anchor to catch up on any episodes you may have missed. Our illustrated, Halloween-inspired Cheer and Loathing avatars were hand drawn by the incredibly talented Kitty Morgan (@kittymorgann on Instagram).

Savoirs These shows have given me my marriage and helped regain my wife's memtal stability. We met at a rocky stage show 19 years ago on 3/9 and have been together since. My wife and I have been part of the tech crew for many rockt stage shows together. Repo reminded my wife that she is more then a mom and got her through baby blues working on the stage show in mass. Both movies are brilliant and favorites for my shoe family.

So Much Yes!!! This episode of Cheer and Loathing may well be my favourite so far, and that's a huge deal as I've loved all of them. Oh Casey! Casey, Casey Casey. Asking about the point of Rocky Horror is like asking a member of Christians against Dinosaurs their opinion on, well anything really. It's totally irrelevant. If you really want to understand RHPS, go and see it in a movie theatre (when we're allowed to, and if any Independent theatres survive the current dumpsters fire that is the way COVID is being "handled"). I promise, you'll get Rocky Horror after you've seen it with a group of fans, it's way more than a movie, it's a fucking life experience. As you can tell, I'm firmly in the Cheer camp on this one. That being said, the way you guys interact gives me life, it's soooo fun to hear Stephanie spend ten minutes talking passionately about a movie then Casey comes back with "meh, I guess it was fine". When he said he turned off Repo after thirty minutes I was dying laughing, and Stephanie's horrified reaction just made it even better. Please keep this up for a long, long time. Your 'cast turns my Sunday night work shift fro the pits of her into pure Nirvana. Thanks so much for bringing me so much joy.
