The wait is over. Death House, starring a who’s who of horror icons, has officially announced a release date.
The highly anticipated horror film will have a theatrical release on January 26th, 2018 on about 100 screens across the country exclusively through Regal Cinemas.
The plot to goes like this: During an exclusive tour, a power breakdown inside a secret prison known as the Death House sends two agents fighting through a labyrinth of horrors while being pursued by a ruthless army of roaming inmates. As they fight to escape, the agents push toward the lowest depths of the facility where they learn a supernatural group of evil beings are their only chance for survival.
Death House was the passion project of the late Gunnar Hansen. He wanted to make a movie starring all of his horror friends. He had the story but couldn’t quite get the script where it needed to be. When writer and director Harrison Smith was brought in to do a rewrite, Gunnar was pleased and gave the script his blessing.
Then he passed away on November 7th, 2015. The news came as a shock to Smith and producers Rick Finkelstein and Steven Chase because Gunnar never let on that he was dying. He did however leave them with one request: Get Death House made and bring it to the fans.
The producers did right by Gunnar and the fans to make sure as many horror fans as possible can experience the film the way Gunnar intended.
And now here we are, in a time when even Rob Zombie and Eli Roth struggle to get theatrical releases, Death House is coming January 26th to theaters.
As horror fans, we need to fill up these theaters. Get your popcorn, get your candy and bring your friends to both honor Gunnar’s dream and send a big thank you to all the living horror legends we’ll see on screen in Death House for all the memories they’ve given us, and continue to give us.
Death House is a damn good film, and it’ll be a lot of fun. I’ll see you at the movies in January.
