Opening Islands of Time is like opening up a door to another world.

Award-winning author Jack Dann selected 20 of his previously published works to include in this anthology. Each tale is an intriguing fusion of fantasy, sci-fi, and horror. Together, it’s a collection of existential tales that explore mortality and abuse.

“Mr Death Goes to the Beach” explores mortality from a child’s perspective when he crosses paths with a mysterious stranger at the beach.

“The Mirror in the Mirror” explores how our life choices affect us when an elderly couple takes a life-altering journey through their bathroom mirror.

“In re The Strange Fate of Samuel Langhorne Clemens” is an action-packed historical fiction and an homage to Wells’ War of the Worlds, featuring Mark Twain.

Finally, a boy copes with abuse by entering an alternate reality, exploring how fiction and imagination can be coping mechanisms in “Islands of Time”.

These are just a few gripping and powerful stories in Islands of Time.

Each tale is a brief but brilliantly crafted emotional journey, exploring aspects of real life using surrealistic elements such as alternative worlds, realities, and histories.

Dann breathes life into each character through masterfully constructed vivid prose.

He creates believable characters in fantastical scenarios. He makes the surreal real— if just for a little while.

Dann seamlessly weaves sci-fi and horror elements together and brings his alternate realities to life flawlessly.

Honored by the Mark Twain Society with the title of Esteemed Knight, Jack Dann’s previous works include international bestsellers The Memory Cathedral, The Rebel, The Silent, Junction, and The Man Who Melted.

Dann’s many awards include the Nebula Award, World Fantasy Award, Peter McNamara Achievement Award, Peter McNamara Convenor’s Award for Excellence, the Shirley Jackson Award, and the Premios Gilgames de Narrativa Fantastica Award. He is also a three-time recipient of the Australian Aurealis Award and a five-time recipient of the Ditmar Award.

Granted the degree of Doctor of Philosophy by the University of Queensland, Dann is an adjunct Senior Research Fellow in the School of Communication and Arts. He is the managing director of PS Australia.

Set for release in March of 2024, Islands of Time is available for preorder from Cemetery Dance Publications.
