Anyone who knows me knows I have a very serious problem. I’m an incurable addict…addicted to horror and goth tees.
Now, there are several horror apparel companies out there — companies you’re likely all familiar with — who offer incredible designs for popular film properties, created by some of the most talented digital artists working in the genre. And while I love so much of the product these big name players put out, I’m always on the hunt for the truly indie shops who need and deserve more support from the incredible horror community.
These are the start up companies, typically run entirely by one or two people, that are true labors of love. When you buy from these companies, you are more than a faceless customer, more than a transaction on a website. You are an integral part of a dream, and your support of that dream can be life changing.
Recently, I discovered a new indie apparel shop that I had to tell you all about. Now, were these ordinary times, I would have still been quite eager to introduce you to the work of a very talented professional graphic designer named Wade Snook who runs Infernal Imagery, an online store offering a variety of t-shirts, apparel and merch he lovingly designed. His store features a small but killer selection of designs celebrating dark art, dark music, horror and the goth aesthetic.
But these are not ordinary times. And Wade needs your support now more than ever.
At any time, I wouldn’t hesitate to tell you to check out some of the outstanding work Infernal Imagery is putting out. Having just discovered this shop, I’ve already picked out several styles I can’t live without. But I’m telling you about this shop now because this small business owner desperately needs the love of the horror community to get through some very dark times.
Wade is a very talented graphic designer and Art Director with over 20 years of experience. At the beginning of 2018, he was laid off due to budget cutbacks. He has applied for job after job since, unable to get a callback, let alone an interview. Despite his impressive career and resume, companies would rather hire young kids right out of school so they can pay them very little.
While his company is gaining some attention, it’s not yet at the point where it can provide a sustainable income. His wife has fibromyalgia and unable to work full-time, and their son has medical needs that require monthly doctor visits and medications.
At this point, today, they are three months behind on their mortgage, medical insurance and every other bill, with no end in sight. And it’s only going to get worse.
Wade currently has a Go Fund Me campaign set up to help keep food on the table, keep the electricity on, put gas in the car and pay for the medications they need until they can sell their home. Wade’s plea for help is heartfelt and heartbreaking:
“Without medical insurance, we would not be able to afford the monthly office visits, nor the multiple medications my wife, my son and myself need every month. The stress, anxiety and depression caused by the thought of losing everything we’ve worked so hard for over the past 20 years is unbearable. I can’t eat, I sleep 3 hours a night and I’ve pretty much reached the end of my rope. This plea for help is really a last ditch effort and it crushes me to have to do it.”
The couple needs $10,000 to get out of the immediate financial crisis. Fortunately, there has been a generous outpouring of support from loved ones and the incredibly supportive community. Within a day of launching the campaign, they are nearly halfway to their goal. But more help is desperately needed — and no donation is too small.
