On this episode of the “Adventures in Movies!” podcast, we discuss the lasting appeal of coming of age films and review “Au Poste!”
ABOUT THIS EPISODE (109):
The Golden Globes this past week… and none of the guys saw it. That does not prevent them from talking about how much they think the awards are unneeded. They also talk about their old favorite hangout filing for bankruptcy, another tragic casualty of COVID.
We then move on to our latest indie film review.
Director Quentin Dupieux (Rubber, Deerskin) is known for some of the strangest films of recent years. From horror stories about killer tires to comedies about giant flies, his resume is an eclectic one. His latest film, Au Poste! (Keep an Eye Out), is strange murder mystery comedy with fantastic elements. Tune in to hear what your hosts thought about it.
You can screen Keep an Eye Out at home via AFI Silver Theater to support independent theater.
You can also catch Dupieux’s film Deerskin (2019) right now on HBO Max, and watch the wonderfully weird Rubber on Hoopla, Fubo, Tubi, and VUDU Free (among other outlets).
This week’s main segment is one coming of age stories, a popular form of storytelling that never seems to fall out of fashion. The three talk about underrated movies in the genre, what elements they enjoy the most, and why these kinds of films are so prevalent in the indie community.
