We return to torment ourselves with more nihilistic French extreme horror, this time daring to face the nasty but remarkable “Inside”.

On this episode of The Final Girl on 6th Ave, host Carolyn Smith-Hilmmer takes a deep dive into the ultra-disturbing, jaw-dropping French horror film Inside ((French: À l’intérieur) directed by Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo. Written by Bustillo, it is the first feature film from either director. It concerns the attack and home invasion of a young pregnant woman by a mysterious stranger who seeks to take her unborn baby. This terrifying and relentlessly brutal film is a prime example of the new wave of French extreme horror… and an absolute must-see. – Stephanie (Editor-in-Chief)

SHOW NOTES FROM HOST CAROLYN SMITH-HILLMER:

INSIDE (2007) is a revolutionary take on the stereotypicaly home invasion film. With body horror aplenty and a woman as the perpetrator, this film takes on fetal abduction, revenge, and grief in such a manner that will have the viewer questioning themselves for days after watching. Oh, and need I mention that there is a spectacular performance from a CGI fetus?

ABOUT THE SHOW:

The Final Girl on 6th Ave is a weekly show where host, Carolyn Smith-Hillmer, dissects an arthouse/elevated horror film. Each episode includes a detailed play-by-play of the film itself and a subsequent deep dive into the thematic elements and symbolism. Because elevated horror is sometimes viewed within the horror community as pretentious, Carolyn makes sure to use her down-to-earth tone and unique perspective to make these films less intimidating for the casual horror viewer and less ostentatious for the genre lover.
