The Wickedly Talented Ladies of Macabre Merch: Six Questions for the Beauty and Brains Behind the Killer Shop, Pretties For Your Face

Pretties For Your Face is an incredible online shop, run by the talented Meg, where horror loving ghouls can purchase a variety of stunning handmade cosmetics and bath products. Products include highlights and blushes, lip scrubs and balms, shimmery eye shadows, amazing themed makeup collections, bath bombs, sprays, and much more. You don’t have to love horror to appreciate these killer beauty products, but spooky girls will definitely feel right at home shopping from macabre inspired colors like Blood Lust, Enchanted Forest, Demogorgon, Hocus and Pocus.

1. What was the inspiration for starting your own business and how did you get started?

I have always loved makeup and beauty products, and it started with me challenging myself to see if I could create my own. I started off on Etsy, and once I saw that people liked my products and I started seeing repeat customers, I was like “Hey, I could keep doing this!”

2. When and how did you fall in love with horror?

It’s funny, actually. When I was a kid, I used to sleep over my grandparents’ house on the weekends. My grandpa would always take me to go rent a few movies, and I always picked creepy stuff that I probably shouldn’t have been watching at that age. I clearly remember my grandma yelling at him for it. But because he explained to me that it was just a movie and all the stuff was fake, the scary stuff never bothered me. Oh, and I’m pretty sure the first official horror movie I ever watched was Child’s Play, lol!

3. Where does inspiration for your products come from? What is your creative process like?

Usually when I do themed collections, I will write out everything that I plan on having included. Most of the time it’s based on a movie, and I will sit and watch the movie all the way through to get inspired, come up with names and colors for the products, etc.

4. What’s the best part about running your own business, and what’s the hardest part?

The best part is being my own boss, for sure. The hardest is when it gets super busy, or when I get sick and all the orders get backed up. I’m super particular about making sure the processing time is quick for my customers, so I feel like I’m failing if I get backed up.

5. Tell me why you think it’s important for people to support small business? Is it especially important for people to support female-owned business (if so, why)?

Oh, it’s so important to support small businesses! I’ve found that the products small businesses carry are so much more unique than what you can just go out and buy at any old corporate-owned stores. Most of the time customer service is so much better, too. Supporting smaller sellers like me who make all their goods by hand allows us to go out and sell more at local events, which is a win-win because we’re able to network and meet so many others, collaborate, and grow!

6. How can people follow/interact with you on social and purchase your products? And is there anything else you’d like to add or promote?
