Fund It Friday: Literature with Catherine

The beautiful and talented scream queen with a heart of gold, Catherine Corcoran, is raising funds via Instagram to assist during the COVID-19 crisis. 

Even as the world grapples with the devastating impact of COVID-19 on human lives, health systems, and economies, the affects of the pandemic continue to worsen. There have been more than 1.5 million confirmed cases of the deadly virus across more than 180 countries around the world, including 432,579 cases in the U.S., and the impact on vulnerable populations is deepening.

So many people are in need of vital assistance, and the need continues to grow at a staggering rate.

While the problem may seem impossibly daunting, there are incredible organizations, like the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, and caring individuals who are stepping up to do their part to make a difference.

People like Catherine Corcoran, the talented star of the the huge indie horror hit, Terrifier, are finding unique and creative ways to make an impact.

And while we all might not have the reach and influence of celebrities like Corcoran, we can still help support the effort to respond to this crisis and give people hope that there is light at the end of this very dark tunnel.

Our own Casey Chaplin, host of the popular Ominous Origins Podcast, had the chance to interview Corcoran during his Women in Horror Spotlight Series in February. She was incredibly gracious and kind, and we here at Morbidly Beautiful fell in love with her. Known for her advocacy of independent art and other worthwhile causes, we weren’t surprised to hear that she was at the forefront of COVID-19 crisis fundraising.

Catherine has been raising fund for those impacted by the pandemic, and supporting small businesses, through an evening reading series on her Instagram Live. It’s quite clever, and she has raised more than $6,000 thus far.

The series, ‘Literature with Catherine’ features the actress reading bedtime stories — complete with comical commentary — while encouraging the viewership to ‘stay at home’ and donate to select COVID-19 aide organizations. Friends of the actress, including former WWE Superstar Chris Jericho and Emmy Award-winning director Erik Bloomquist have logged on to show their support of this incredible initiative.

“I think love and laughter is the best medicine, right now,” says Corcoran, “we can’t control these circumstances, but we are still present. We can still connect and we can still encourage each other.”
