The Spookshow Summer Disaster continues with Donny’s choice, “The Book of Eli” (2010), the post-apocalyptic neo-Western action flick from directors The Hughes Brothers starring Denzel Washington!
The Book of Eli revolves around Eli (Washington), a nomad in a post-apocalyptic world — thirty years after a nuclear holocaust — who seeks to deliver his copy of a mysterious book to a safe location on the West Coast of the United States. Wearing sunglasses and ragged clothes, he demonstrates uncanny survival and fighting skills. He marches across the ruined landscape, carrying hope for humanity’s redemption. Only one other man (Gary Oldman) understands the power of what Eli carries, and he is determined to take it for himself. Though Eli prefers peace, he will risk death to protect his precious cargo, for he must fulfill his destiny to help restore mankind.
The film received mixed reviews from critics but earned $157.1 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of $80 million.
