On this episode of “I Spit on Your Podcast”, we look at Satanism in film, discussing “The House of the Devil” and “The Blood on Satan’s Claw”.

Episode 28: “The Blood on Satan’s Claw” and “The House of the Devil”

October is the high (un)holy season for horror fans everywhere. So, to keep with the chilling atmosphere, we talked about Satanism! Specifically, we talked about Satanic cults and how they are represented in film in comparison to what modern Satanism really is.

Satanism isn’t the worship of a literal Devil, but the celebration of independence and non-conformity. We talk about the history of supposed Satanic Ritual Abuse in the 1980s as well as the defining philosophies of both the Church of Satan and The Satanic Temple (not to be confused as the same). Alongside that, we received insight from a real-life practicing Satanist, Jessie Seitz, co-creator and director of the documentary on extreme horror, Beyond Horror.

The films up for discussion will be Ti West’s The House of the Devil (2009) and The Blood on Satan’s Claw (1971).

The House of the Devil is available to watch for free on Prime, Hoopla, and Shudder. The Blood on Satan’s Claw is available on YouTube

Hail Satan!
